VINEYARDS

At Alko Vintages, every bottle begins in the heart of Dodoma — a region rich in tradition, resilience, and community spirit. Our wines are crafted to reflect the land they come from and the people who cultivate the grapes with care and dedication.

We believe wine should tell a story — not just of soil and climate, but of the hands that tend the vines. That’s why our wines carry the essence of Dodoma and, by extension, the spirit of East Africa. From vineyard to bottle, we strive to create wines that represent our people, our history, and our homeland.
Site Specific Characteristics

Most of our vineyards are owned and nurtured by small-scale farmers across the Dodoma region, many of whom belong to the Gogo (Wagogo) tribe — an indigenous community with deep-rooted traditions in pastoralism and, more recently, agriculture. Introduced by missionaries during the pre-independence era, viticulture has gradually woven itself into the fabric of Gogo culture.
At Alko Vintages, we honor this legacy. Our approach to grape growing respects local customs and generational knowledge, integrating traditional organic practices such as the use of animal manure — an age-old method among the Gogo that aligns with our commitment to sustainable agriculture.
Empowering Farmers, Transforming Communities
Inspired by the vision of Tanzania’s founding father, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, we subscribe to the philosophy of education for self-reliance. Our viticulture model is rooted in community development, economic empowerment, and knowledge transfer.
We empower our farmers by providing training, loans, and long-term support to sustain viticulture and improve livelihoods. Through access to resources and skills, they are able to grow not just grapes — but opportunity, dignity, and lasting change for their communities.
Alko Vintages is proudly Tanzanian — growing more than grapes, nurturing more than wine.
